One useful idea I thought of would be to allow any type
of markup to have its own compiler. For instance, I
could install tidy, and php-cli on my machine, and then
set the HTML "Compiler" option to be tidy. That way, I
have a convinent shortcut (F8), to get a validation
report right in the messages pane.

Same thing with PHP as well, I could use the
lint-checking syntax when compiling.

It is already on the todo list but may take some time...;-)

In the meantime I've created a workaround.

I simply created a shell script of the same name (minus the
extension), and made its contents link to the syntax-checker
of my choice. This way, the "Execute" shortcut (F5) will
    run that file.

    However, I'm waiting :)

This is somewhat dirty. As a better workaround, Geany 0.6
probably will provide the make and make custom menu items
    for every filetype.
