Geany's symbol list forgets the sorting preference when Geany is closed and reopened. For example, after changing it to "Sort by appearance" it will be "Sort alphabetically" again after Geany is restarted.

Maybe the session should include information on the sorting preference, too.

Version and platform used: Geany Revision 5865 on Scientific Linux 6.0.

    Although this isn't remembered between sessions for each file, it is a filetype-specific setting (symbol_list_sort_mode) that you can change if you wish.

    How do I adjust this setting? I looked in preferences > various, but did not find this specific setting. It would be nice if there was just a checkbox that said 'remember sort mode'.

    Anyway, thanks!

      Find the config file for one file type (shell, for example: /usr/share/geany/filetypes.sh)

      Insert the following under [settings]:

      # sort tags by appearance
      symbol_list_sort_mode=2

      That worked for me.

    BTW, it's probably best to ask questions on the mailing list or IRC instead of bug report comments. For your suggestion, you might want to add a new item on the feature request tracker to get more attention.
