short story: newer versions of geany disrespect indentation settings

long story:

I indent by one, so set preferences->indentation->width to 1 and ->indentation type to spaces, leaving all other indentation settings default

This works fine with geany-0.19.2 (ctrl-i and ctrl-u indent and un-indent by one as expected). But newer versions of geany such as 1.22 and 1.23 indent by 4

//So I told my package manager to never emerge geany newer than 0.19.2

//bugtracker search does not work, reports connection error

I'm on Gentoo/amd64 if it matters

steps to reproduce:
1) Use a fresh version of geany
2) Set indentation options as above
3) Set cursor to start of line without indentation
4) Press ctrl-i. More than 1 spaces appear --- bug

The steps you give to reproduce seem to show that you have a file open before you set the preferences but you do not apply the new preferences. At the top of the indentation preferences dialog it says "Note: To apply these settings to all currently open documents, use Project->Apply Default Indentation"

Yes, that was my mistake. Indentation works now (in ver.1.23)

      I suggest closing the bug
