#31 suggestion for better info on the website!

Simon Wiles

Hi there - I just wanted to suggest adding a note on http://plugins.geany.org/ to the effect that all (most?) of the plugins are available in the Ubuntu repositories (at least, as of Lucid). I'm gonna guess this means they're probably available in repos for other distros too. I'd downloaded the archive, run `./configure`, and was halfway through chasing down a couple of dev dependencies when I realized I could simply do `sudo apt-get install geany-plugins`.

    Hey Simon,
    I just reworked the site a few weeks ago and added a page with install instructions:

    Can you verify those install instructions work on Ubuntu? If not, could describe in some small steps how to install geany-plugins on Ubuntu? I would add those instructions then to that page. :)

    Thanks very much in advance & Best Regards,

    Yeah, the instruction here is fine, but as with Fedora you can either install a collection of plugins, or individual plugins, as you choose. I therefore suggest the following wording:

    Install via:

    sudo apt-get install geany-plugins

    sudo apt-get install geany-plugin-{pluginname}

    To see the list of plugins available in the repositories, use:

    sudo apt-cache seach geany

    Alternatively (GUI method), use Synaptic (System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager) and search for "geany".

    Note: you must have the "Universe" repository enabled.

    eek! that should, of course, be `apt-cache search geany` (make that typo all the time on the command-line, too!), and root (and therefore `sudo`) isn't required for apt-cache, on reflection.

    Thanks again Dominic!

    I've updated the instructions on http://plugins2.geany.org/index.php?site=install (note the 2 in the URL, this is just the preview version). Maybe you like to have a look there first before I'll publish that one to the "stable site" then. :)
