In version 1.7 and before, GDS3D will try to look for a cell with the same name as the GDS filename to select as the topcell in the design. This behavior can be blocked by specifying your own topcell name with the -t commandline option.
From version 1.8 onward, we change this behavior and load in the non-referenced cell in the GDS as a topcell. This is more inline with other GDS software.
