I was looking at a review of Arkham Asylum, talking about how great the combat was because it did all the work for you and you just pressed two buttons, and it occurred to me that lots of games have gone down this route recently, making combat much more about movement and button-mashing than about mastering complicated systems of combos. I'm not particularly saying one is better than the other, but it's interesting how much these things have changed. The selling point of most games is now about big worlds and exploration, rather than the kind of micro-world pinpoint accuracy of those days. Obviously, there's still plenty of that going on in the casual game market, though. Danny |
