[Algorithms] abstracting platforms

I've been trying to make some fundamental stuff (as game loop, input system, file system, timer support, rendering...) conform abstract interfaces so I can quickly switch between platforms using abstract factories to crate the platform dependent concrete objects. In this way I could keep the overal game code stable (almost) while porting. I've also heard oppinions like: "new game - new code..." and "what runs fast on one platform won't run fast on another..." Can I get some oppinions on the matter? What do people do these days about it? What percentage of code is reused in your next game? Thanks, Yordan |
