On a more serious note it's an excellent compressor which is replacing bzip2 (for example the .rpm and .deb packages for the latest Fedora/Ubuntu distributions use it instead of bzip2). The tool (xz) works just like gzip/bzip2 and is available in the xz-utils package in the Debian-based distros and in the xz package in the Red Hat-based ones. Gabriele |
