Are You sure that the diagram of the connections is OK in the "Help" ? Should D7 not be connected to Q6 instead of Q7 ?

Can you give me the page in the online help? http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/help/

Then, we can ask the author of the page. (it is not me).

    Help > Command references > Liquid Crystal Display > LCD Overview > LCD_IO 3
    (the same in "local" help)

As I cannot tell the version of the local Help you are looking at. See http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/help/_lcd_io_3.html

Is this the same? And, therefore the same question remains?

The diagram is the same online, and the question too ...

    Here is the original https://sourceforge.net/p/gcbasic/discussion/629990/thread/f8ecbf20e0/

So, there is an error. D7 should be connected Q6.

@caroper Are you able to update your lovely diagram?

    Cheers.

why go to so much effort to get a crap display? why not use a cheap glcd and display anything you want.
I do not get the point of 2 line lcds that use lots of wires.
and the idea of making a 2 line lcd do "graphics" seems silly.
ili displays are cheap and work great with gcb, only need dc,cs,sck, mosi.
    reset can be tied hi.

edit- I had a psion organiser 2 in the 80's with 2 line display and programmed a speaker designer program for the experience and longed for organiser 3 with a "display".
the same gcb program on a glcd would have graphs showing frequency response as well as numeric data.

why use a shift reg chip to drive a display seems interesting but not 2020.

I can solder the PCB with the shift register directly to the pins on the display, and so I come to the same point as You ... I don't need any graphics, only 80 chars either as 40 x 2 or 20 x 4, and "text only" displays are really cheap on the Bay or Alixxxx ...
    :)

The error should be corrected both in the online help (I saw it is still present) and in the local help files included in GCBasic ...

Yes. The automatic process will update the online version first, then, the local help can be downloaded from http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/help/output/.
