Will this program work under Vista?
I did find some files created hidden in a folder for compatibility but can not create (find ?) any hex files? I assume they are being created because the dos message box only flashes briefly on the screen. Usually an error message stays put until you respond in some way. Windows Vista also allows windows to behave like win95,98,xp. I set this option for gcbasic but still no luck.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Hopefully! I've not tried it personally, but I've not had anyone reporting any trouble with GCBASIC and other programs written using the same language (FreeBASIC) all seem to be okay.
GCBASIC does save its output (compiled.asm, compiled.hex) into its Program Files folder by default, which I believe Vista might not like.
If you download the latest update, there is a program called settings.exe which will allow you to change the settings of GCBASIC. If you set it not to use compiled.* for its output, then you shouldn't have too much trouble.

The update is available in two files - http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/newfiles/update.zip or http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/newfiles/update-nochipdata.zip . The latter does not include the newest (September or October) chip data files, and so will save a little bandwidth it you've already got these files.
I am using Vista, sp1.
No problems at all.
GCB will crash out every now and then, but I usually have too many files open when it happens.
I did however set the properties on the .exe's to run like Windows XP sp2.
