You need to select the PICKit+ Cmd5v0 [Maintain Power @ 5v0] as the programmer but for the K42 you will need PICKit+. K42 is not supported by the old 2012 application.

Getting the error HEX not found. Tried with 16F887 no issues. Not actually sure if this chip is supported by the pickit3.

Can the software be installed on different PC's?
Licence is yours for multiple machines. License is different for corporate or robot licenses.
Everyone should get licenses now. Prices are rising on May 1st 2025 to pay the newly introduced tax.
