I have been using Real Pic Simulator for over nine years now. I have found it an invaluable development tool, simplistic in use - great for developing and testing switches and Timers.

My problem is since upgrading my PC I have lost my Licence Key. No problems or so I thought, get hold of the Company and ask them. No such luck they don't reply....

Okay I thought, I'll but a new licence key. The buy licence button takes you to what looks like a Brazilian Online Gambling website. I say Brazilian but it is not in Spanish more like Slovakian or Hungarian, irrespective it bears no relationship to Real PIC Simulator.

I can download and install a new program instance which gives me a free trial but I know what will happen, the trial period will expire and will have to spend hours flushing the registry of every hint of Real PIC to reinstall it for a further trial period.

Has anyone here had a similar experience with Real PIC Simulator if so, would you be kind enough to let me in on the secret of what you did to get around the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

A very vexed and aggravated Geordie.

That is unfortunate. Sorry for you.

Did you replace the old computer? did you format the hard drive? Can you recover the license key from the old setup?

Check your emails. He will have sent you an email with the license. Hopefully, you still have it in your email folders.

I have contacted the developer many times over the past years. No response. This is never a good sign.

I have recovered the hard drive with a working instance of Real PIC simulator. The licence key must be in the actual executable program as there is nothing in the computer registry.

I used to have a recovery program whuch would display the licence key but it won't look at this.

        Anyone any ideas

I have emailed the developer again. I can try for you.

According to an in-depth AI search, it appears the developer of the Real Pic Simulator has passed away. You cannot download the Real Pic Simulator software from their website anymore (http://digitalelectrosoft.com), nor can you contact them via their contact page (https://digitalelectrosoft.com/contact)
It appears you can only download it from 3rd party sites. When you go to pay, you are also send to a 3rd party site. I suspect a family member receives part of the proceeds (after 3rd party expenses). This is very sad as I think it is one of the best simulators out there. Unfortunately is only supports legacy PIC chips and has not been updated since April 2010 (ver 1.3).

I normally keep Licence keys and registrations etc. in a Card file type index where I can recover in such cases as this, but for whatever reason it isn’t there!

An Email from over nine years ago. I don’t think I can go that far back. I’ll give it try all the same. As I said I don’t mind paying for another licence key but there is no way of buying one.

if searching in your emails proves fruitless, you could always try Oshonsoft PIC simulator; which IS still in active developement...
    https://www.oshonsoft.com/licenses.php
there is a free trial version to take it for a spin before comitting to paying!

    Well...

I had a discussion with the author about development of Real PIC Simulator. He was not willing to releare the source. I have contacted the author many times since and he not responded.

    Personally, I would re-license, if I could.

I have built my own installer. This means I can restore when ever I need to.
