I am totally new to microcontrollers and basic code writing. I aspire to build a knock off of the Nova Dreamer REM/dream detection Mask as featured in this book:
Subsequently I have found other similar projects at the 'Instructables' website.
The instructions in the book call for the programing on an Atmega 88 microcontroller.
Wanting to program both PIC and Atmega chips I bought a generic(?) programer thinking it would work for both. I bought a PIC K150 USB Automatic Microcontroller Programmer from an e-bay/chinese Vendor as seen here:
which I expect to arrive sometime early January 2014. After further research I came to discover that AVR uses a different type programer. I am thinking of buying this AVR programer from e-bay, seems the right price for my very limited budget.
From what I see in the photos there is this circuit board with a usb terminal and this download cable which plugs into what? The big question I have is can I use the generic programer I bought in conjunction with the AVR programer to program the atmega 88. Can this AVR programer plug into the generic programer and the two operate in a compatible manner? Does anyone have experience with this? What specifically does this AVR programer normally plug into? After I learn some basic i should be able to use either type of microcontroller but for now the book offers pre-written code for the atmega 88.
Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
