I'd like to increase the number of recent files shown under menu item files/recentfiles.
I found where you could save info for more files under options/customize/history, but that didn't change the number of files in the files/recentfiles dropdown, it is still set to 10.
This is probably not the right place to ask this question so please move where it should be.

Sorry, if the parameter does not work to increase from 10.. then, you are stuck with 10 MRUs.

I did make a Thread on the selection and evalulation of a new editor. It needs to progresss as SynWrite is no longer supported. Hence, why we are stuck with not fixing your type of issue.

The latest thread I found was https://sourceforge.net/p/gcbasic/discussion/579125/thread/9f53e3916b/, is there a better one for this discussion?

    That was the thread.

Essentially, we need to replace SynWrite. But as SynWrite took about a year to shake out all the integration issue to replace is a big task and someone needs to have a lot of passion and be experience across the widest range of OSs to make the solution (whatever the replacement editor is) work as well as SynWrite.

I accidentally discovered an answer to my original question. If you right click on the great cow icon on the task bar it gives you a longer list of recent files. Now if there was some way to decrease the spacing between lines. Probably a windows setting.

Edit: Yes, this is a windows thing and has nothing to do with GCB itself. You can change the number of items with a simple registry hack.
