I am a "newbie" with GCB, but not with IT (since 1973 ... on Univac 1110, and microcontrollers with the good old 6500 family).
I bought the "vintage" STK200 (in 1999 ! ), made some tests and last year I bought the USB adapter ; now I wanna develop a model railroad automation system and integrate the programmer into the "AVRDude" programming function, and so I took a glance at the command line in flashAVR.bat (I saw that it's still inactive due to the "rem" in front). Replacing the "STK500v2" with STK200 seems obvious, but what should I use for "port" ? USB ? or COM3 ? (I added a virtual port in the "seriaI USB converter" and it's seen as COM3). In both cases, the "detect" function in the "avrdudess" GUI says that it can't open device "giveio" and failed to open parallel port (?) USB or COM3 ! I can't use the original parallel cable, my computer runs W7 64 bits ...
Thanks for any answer(s).

Sorry, that's exactly what I did ... and always the program answers that both Com3 and usb are ... parallel ports !
I think the best way will be that I save the object program in HEX and then use the standard STK200 programming tool.

In the post that You mentioned the ... LPT port is used ! The error message is still the same : can't open device "giveio" ; I read that giveio is needed to access the PARALLEL port and not needed with W7. And avrdude tries to access USB as a PARALLEL port ! I wonder if it is compatible with W7 64 bits (I saw in Google that some people had issues with it). I tried to download libusb.dll, and in the folder I saw : cygwin ! I think this is running to a "gaseous plant", I give up the programming from inside GWB.

In the context that I do not have your programmer.
I personally dont think you can damage the USB adapater - anyone else worried?

If you can sort the command line out .... you can add to the batch file.
