Hello
I downloaded GCB from the website
The licence says version 2
But windows shows
great cow graphical basic 0.9
Running XP professional
Do I need the service pack?
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
After unzipping to a folder (I recommend C:/GCB). Create a shortcut on the desktop to C:\GCB\IDE.exe.
Double click on the shortcut and the IDE should open.
Click on Tools > External tools > GCB Compiler Version. The output window (at the bottom) should read "0.94 2015-04-02".
To actually program a chip you will need a programmer of some kind. I recommend either a Pickit3 or Pickit2 for PICS.
Programming is facilitated by the use of a batch file. For PICs this
flashPIC.bat. For AVR it is FlashAvr.bat. These wil likely need to be configured to support whatever programmer you have.
Please tell us what operating system you are using and what Chips you intend to work with as well as what programmers you may have. The more info you can provide, the more we are able to help you get started with GCB.

0.9? Sound like a version old version.
Where/what download URL did you use?
For the video - this will show you... I forgot to post - www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FNbGl0G9JM
Looks like the copy I downloaded is a DOS version
Is there a windows version?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gcbasic/files/latest/download
Use the link above to download the latest code. The url I posted will show you how install and compile your first program.
We have Windows IDE within the install link above.
What URL have you been using to download?
If you want you use the Graphical version you will find the latest build in the GreatCowBasic folder. Simply create an icon/link to the GCGB exe file.
I am not sure about support for XP. Others can help answer that question.
I tried the link above and it only provides a readme.htm file. I think this line below should point to the correct download.
