    CDRIVE - 2016-11-11

GCB Nube here again with more questions. I've been using Tina Classic as my primary schematic editor and spice simulator for probably a decade or more. It workes great for all components except MCU's. No matter how many new and supposedly improved versions they release their MCU debugger window crashes Tina if it doesn't like the HEX or ASM file it's reading. The damn thing has burned me out so now I'm looking for an affordable alternative.

I should mention that I also have Picaxe-VSM on my PC but my license doesn't include simultions with blank PICs. An upgrade to do so is in the ozone at over $500 at their lowest end package! Heck, they go up to > $6,000!

I found this on Source Forge but it doesn't include the PIC12F family.

So, anyone out there have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Start with Pic Simulator. It works. I use many others but start with that one.

Do you have a link for me?

This has limitations. All simulators do. But, this is a great piece of software and I asking the author to update to later chips.

I do you use. If I want to prove some basic functionality - the Real Pic Simulator is good enough.

Anobium, what's the difference in functionality / features between the Personal and Professional license? The info on the Purchase page is rather sparse.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Looking at the functionality - you cannot save projects.

The simulator above is a nice program, but only supports a limited number of older chips. It has not been updated since April 2010. There is no support for enhanded midrange chips, 18F chips, or chips with Core Independant Peripherals.

This program It uses the hex file created by a compiler for simulation/debugging.

If you are looking for something along the lines of the Picaxe Basic simulator where it simulates a BASIC source code file line by line, while showing variable values, etc, there is no such program available for Great Cow Basic.

IMO the best "simulator" is a real chip, a breadboard, and either an LCD display or Terminal to show variable values, registers, etc using Print to the LCD or sersend/hsersend/ serprint to a terminal.

This is really odd. The PicSimulator page includes a "Contact Us" option which I've used twice with absolutely no reply. I've simply asked for an explanation regarding the difference between the Personal License and the Professional License. Since, as stated, this software hasn't been updated since 2010 it is possible that the developer is no longer with us. Perhaps his decendants (who are clueless about the software) keep the site and PicSim going?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I an talking with the developer. He is not very talkative but he does reply to personal email. :-)

Well, I got tired of waiting for a reply that may never arrive, so I purchased the Personal License.

Well I never did receive a reply but that hasn't stopped me from using GCB and RealPicSim. I'm having an enormous amount of fun using both. I also contacted DesignSoft regarding the instability issues and trouble simulating PIC's in my Tina10. They set me up with a fresh download and viola I'm now importing and simulating GCB generated HEX in both Tina9 and Tina10. This is a boon for me because Tina is a full blown Berkley Spice simulator that ain't cheep! I can run pure Digital or Mixed Mode circuits in both real time or plot graph modes.

I never thought I'd find a PIC programming environment that I'd love as much as the Picaxe system but GCB has changed that in a very dramatic way. I simply LOVE GCB!!!!!! It's an instant love affair!

Great to hear. We have 1000's of downloads a week and it is good to hear this.

Great Cow BASIC is not perfect. It will be.
