    Unless you find some other value in the PicKit, I'd recommend using a bootloader in your project Pic. Tiny Bootloader only takes 100 bytes in the target Pic and works great. Been using it in all my projects since GCB started.

    I don't have java. One GCB pickit3 option needs java the other not. I know pickit3 is necessary for "new" pics but pickit2 does for "old" pics which other than xpress users are the "norm" people still use, all the pics in the pic config...how many? lots. It's like pickit2 is redundant but maybe more people use it more than pickit3.

    If I used tiny boot loader then I guess I'd use usb ttl converter and it's like a uno.I can't see the point as icsp works fine with gcb. What would the advantage be if I used a bootloader please?
    edit since I have pickit2. should I have use a pic boot loader from start?
    As Anobiwan said "getting started need sorting". The pickit3 stuff is off putting.
