My old mate who for a living can look at something and see what's wrong picked up my xpress board and said looks like the connectors were an after thought and why is one pin not soldered.

Yes,you can see one ground on the socket with no solder. If it broke off it would be unrepairable as it's a multi layered pcb.
I've noticed paying more on fleabay doesn't mean better quality.

I would examine the board very carefully.
I have a lot of these boards - USB socket not correctly soldered is another issue. The USB socket will become detached. So, check now.
