I am prepared to help out with the Linux side of things, such as the installation scripts. However, I must strongly suggest moving from a .sh script to something less sucky. Scripting in Bash is like pulling teeth. All modern Linux installations have several scripting languages available to them right out of the box. Why do things the hard way?
Ruby would be my first choice; however I would also be prepared to consider Python, Lisp or Perl. I have extensive experience in both Ruby and Lisp.

What is so hard just to use bash?
Nearly every Linux distribution has bash already installed.
The Install script is used only onces and do it's job.
Where is the benefit for using Ruby or Python? Beside this most people must install it anyway. Another stumbling block on the way to install Great Cow BASIC.
I am in favour of maintaining and improving the install script and not reinventing it.
But apart from that, a Linux expert is certainly welcome. What's really missing is an IDE native to Linux for GCBASIC. Geany is meanwhile my favorite, but you could develop more plugins.
Or the ppstool as native Linux version would also be a hit.
So no offense, I think it's good if you want to get involved, but I don't think the install script is the first candidate.
(A small addition:
I have looked at ruby on rails years ago, I have to say, that was very impressive!)
