me-Well I downloaded gcb linux and extracted but no ide just chip data, demos, include etc.
Not a clue what to do next and would it program a uno or work with pickit 2/3?
so how to get gcb to work in linux mint 19.2
answer-Interesting and valid question and worthy of a new thread.
May I suggest you start a topic with that question rather than leave it here in an all but exhausted thread? We have several Linux Users and as much as I dislike MPLabX there is a linux version that includes the IPE so a discussion of integrating GCBASIC with MPLAB on LINUX Mint could be enlightening to many.
We may even be saved by a suggestion of an alternative IDE and some LINUX PICKit Drivers.
I couldn't get gcb to work with a rpi but I'm not the brightest crayon in the box.
I've tried linux and it uses apt get not ppa.
Do I need to install the gcb ide?
It seems gcb is reliant on win not mac os or linux. It's only out of interest. I've found the same mint live usb works different on different pc's.

Ok let me try to explain.
Or wait.... I will make a short article for absolute Linux Beginners to make it go
I know Linux Mint, but don't use it yet, so I will have set up a vm in Order to to be clear
Hold on

that's a big deal for Debian packages, also rpm based Linux distributions would be out of the question again. Maybe not the best idea.
Ps: I already started with the above mentioned article.

The thing with linux is you don't know what you're installing.
After cinammon? I got dual boot mate 64bit and win 10 64bit.
Using mate from a live usb stick on different pcs shows differences.
Imho I like the win version of gcb.,,,It just worked!!!
I don't like the idea of "compiling" an app.
If you must know, I got a free ubunto disk ,no postage. to run on a 486. I installed wine , not realising it was a win emulator and was amazed I could get win programs to run under linux.
Linux is part ubuntu and debian so ppa and apt-get or is that yet another distro
later... linux doin myhead :)

I will and try to delete the lihux partition. I think I need the live usb to do this...it has gparted installed and win don't see linuv partitions.
All very interesting but not for me. sorry linux users.
It's the point of gcb...ease of use.

Ohh, what Desktop do you use?
Cinnamon; MATE;
or Xfce
At a first tip.
the IPE command is part of mplabx package.
So it is also installed.
Whether you then work with the admittedly giant mplabx or only use the IPE is up to you.
But explaining how to use it to someone who only works with the graphical interface is a bit more complicated.
So I'll explain that in detail in the article I'm writing, ok?
In the waiting time read you nevertheless times the articles meantionde here

why can't it be sudo apt-get install gcb? I'll stick with win I think.
Because no one has build a dedicated Package for it. Hhm not a bad Idea...
If someone tells me how this can be automated during the build process then it should be possible.
:-)

Linux != Windows, it is different .
Both are having plus and minus.
So please stick with Windows.. and You and I will be happy :-)
