Sharing - so do not be moaning. :-)

    Reprinted.

With support for Windows 7 ending in January 2020, Microsoft is encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 10 to keep devices running securely and smoothly. On Microsoft's website, the Windows 10 Home operating system costs $139 to download. However, you do o't necessarily have to shell out the cash: A free upgrade offer from Microsoft that technically ended in 2016 still works.

When Windows 10 was first released in July 2015, Microsoft offered an free upgrade offer for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users, good through July 2016. As of November 2019 tour still able to upgrade some computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Windows 7 users who don't upgrade to the new version will no longer be able to get Microsoft's security updates or fixes, or technical support for any issues.

Here's how to get Windows 10 for free, if you're currently running a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Home or Pro:

    1. Go to the Download Windows 10 website. Here

    2. Under Create Windows 10 installation media, click Download tool now and Run.

    3. Choose Upgrade this PC now, assuming this is the only PC you're upgrading. (If you're upgrading a different machine, choose Create installation media for another PC, and save the installation files.)

    4. Follow the prompts.

    5. When the upgrade is complete, go to Settings Update & Security > Activation, and you should see a digital license for Windows 10.

It should be noted that if you have a Windows 7 or 8 Home license, you can only update to Windows 10 Home, while Windows 7 or 8 Pro can only be updated to Windows 10 Pro (the upgrade is not available for Windows Enterprise. Other users may experience blocks as well, depending on your machine). This upgrade using the media creation tool isn't meant for the general consumer, but it works for many nonetheless.

win 7 ultimate upgrades to win 10 pro....if your machine has the spec, usually graphics hardware to run win 10.
I have a laptop that won't run/install win 10 due to low spec but runs win 7 fine.
You can download win 10 iso, google it. https://freeproductkeys.com/download-windows-10-iso-microsoft-2019/

I tried. It worked upto 98% installing upgrades after two hours then sat there doing nothing for an hour so I turned it off and reinstalled win 7. Then the updates, which didn't take long and it saying win 7 is dead after 10 years etc. so upgrade to win 10.
I have win 10 iso dvd but not sure if they pick up the previous key or need their own.
This is the file you need to upgrade win 7 to win 10.

I retried with better wi-fi connection on an old laptop and it worked...well until the end when it said my win 7 wasn't genuine and so un-activated it.
I used a crack to reactivate it. This is what can happen when buying used pcs.
You assume win is genuine. I says activated and updates work but...

This will be interesing to watch Stan. You used a crack...and you dont think Microsoft know this? It will be interesting to see if they figure it out and you loose the Digital License in 30 days.
      Keep us informed.

It's kaza version old for win 7.
It's worked for years on this old vista laptop. It updated win 7 to dual boot win 7/ win 10 when it was free years ago.
One day win 10 updated and said win 7 was non genuine.
So on this laptop stayed with win 7...it's old.
Got all updates etc..... until I used the win 10 update.
It will be ok again..for win 7.
The same guy wrote a win 10 crack but just downloaded, not tried. The win 10 iso is free to use for a month.
I think the used win 10 pc I just bought is genuine cos it says win 10 installed on the box.
    Hmmm?
    Any interest - email me.

      Or Safe.
By knowingly applying a hack from an unknown entity you are willingly allowing a hacker root level access to a supposedly secure Operating System. Then People ask where botnets come from.
I suggest we close this thread and that nobody open any files sent from that PC.

That's why I said email me.
I can only report win 7 after 10 plus years of a not bought from currys/pc world. Local high street shop, Sells/repairs pc and laptops.
Could have been ex argos. You can check the win serial using Belarc advisor and see if it matches the number printed on the case.

My point was unless it's legit, the update stops win 7 working.
    Innocence won't help you then.

    You serious Stan?
Please delete the JPG before I do.

I really thought I was helping . Belarc advisor is not pirate ware! it tells you everything about your pc. This has been handy ie graphic card info...long list of features. One is show the win key. What is wrong with that ?!

I feel offended when all I've posted is relevant to anyone who has bought a used pc and would have the same problems I had.
So yes I am serious and if you think all pc was bought new then you don't live in the same world as me...or my friends who can't afford new pcs.

Stan if you want the Microsoft licensing people chasing you or setting your license key as invalid ....

I stick by that you don't know if you have a genuine win 7.
The update could mess it up although it has worked flawless for years.
No fun so what do you do?....improvise?
Oh dear, win 7 is now duff...what do I do?
Well if there's an option to get a win 10 iso from microsoft and use a win 7 key to activate it then cool as long as you know the win 7 key...hence belarc, which is one of many apps to show your system.

I think you should post a disclaimer that the update only works on legit win 7 and de-activates it if not.

ps. I think that free programs like belarc and other free progs to test win hardware are cool.
gcb is free and no one says it's virus/malware cos it's free.

pps. want to speed up an old pc....buy a ssd. £23 for 240G drive, kingston not unknown.
The pc will run much faster.
    extra ram helps to.
For cloning I recomend...as others on the forum...https://www.aomeitech.com/aomei-partition-assistant.html
get the free one and not the ads.
When installed...and I'd get it while it's still free..goto All Tools
    then disk clone wizard.

{ just downloaded a win 10 iso from the ms site using a win 10 pc that was upgraded from what was a duff win 7 originally. no problems.
Getting win 10 iso to use on other pc is there in options.
It ends with burn iso but you don't, so you just have the file on where you said download to.
This will work on any pc. Some of my pcs won't boot from usb so burn iso to dvd.
It seems to work ok from youtube vids without a key forever but you lose things like personalise and ms account but you should find a valid key makes it legit.

My point is that if you have a pre-used win 7 pc and the upgrade doesn't work then you're not going to be happy.
