If you have a Raspberry Pi and you want to program using PICkitPlus then join the Beta Program !

This is a new PICKitPlus program specifically for the Pi. You get all the normal capabilities of PICKitPlus but on a Pi.

Let me know - post here and I will sign you up!

I have a Pi 3b+ (running OctoPrint). I didn't even know the Pi had flash ROM. Currently program resides on SD card.

@George. PICKitPlus is software for programming microcontrollers and eeproms. A Pi is the host computer.

Use case include: A developer uses a Pi to create a hex and they use PKCMD-PI to program a microcontroller via a PICkit2/3 programmer. Another use case: A production line needs a low cost gang programmer - using a number of PIs they can automated the mass programming process.

Oops, showing my ignorance again. I run the Pi headless so I won't be able to test.

Headless is good. Write a script and access remotely via Curl. There are many ways to use the software but no problem.

@Stan. Excellent. We can provide you hex files for your PICs. I will send you an invite to a Trello board that is specific to the Beta program.

      Thank you.

before I look at trello, is this a pic only thing?
is it rpi can plug in pickit to usb and where is the rpi program?
        what about avr?
please don't say all will be revealed in trello.
what is this rpi stuff about as installing freebasic is a pain as no libcurses yes curses sums it up.installing gcb linux...dream on.
so what's this project about please? I don't have a clue.

The software is for PIC and EEPROMs- however we are looking for you to test the operating system with the software not to generate the hex. We can supply all the hexs for the PICs your have to hand.

You will attach the PICKit Programmer via a usb cable to the Pi.
We will provide the Pi programmer. Hence, the Beta program.

There will be lots revealed in Trello.... :-)

So, there is NO need to sort FreeBASIC or any of that stuff. One of the design goals of PICKitPlus is that is one application image and it is intended to just work.

So, to summarise. We are validating that the new Pi PICKitPlus software works on Pi. And, Stan, you have a few.. you are the ideal person!

    Hello.
I have a Pi Zero. If that will work, I could be willing to try this.

I have been looking for something to replace our very very old gang programmer at work. The one we currently have is only suitable for the 16C54/55/57 range of processors. The newer chips (even 16F57) have to be programmed individually. I am hoping to look at replacing the board that uses those old chips with (slightly) more recent ones and if I could build a gang programmer with a selection of Raspberry Pi's it would make programming the software much quicker.

Excellent. We will get you signed up for both Beta program - Pi and Gang.

Sign me up for the test. I checked trello but no new activity.
Next thing you'll have a bootloader like picaxe that just needs rs232 and no pickit.

ps. I like paspberry pi. it's a real computer, not a toy.
gcb linux rpi was not impossible but needed a user familiar with using linux
    ie NOT jo everyman.
Good luck with the project. Is it from a post on the forum about gcb running under rpi os as command line?

@mkstevo ,never checked out the rpi zero..looks interesting.
what's your thoughts about rpi 4?

A way to resolve the complexity for Linux and Pi would be for someone to create an AppImage for each OS. Not too hard to create AppImages but would need a focused effort.

I don't think there's any problems only idiots like me who find the linux command a bit unusual and the learning new stuff curve.
I thought rpi debian or other was just linux and that it ran on rpi irrelevant cos rpi
is a linux os and cool gui but underneath it's "normal" linux ie in command terminal.
it could be on a pc but it's the same.

anyway it doesn't use gpio pins yet but maybe one day it will

I hate trello...it's me,trello is so intuitive I think I must be losing the plot.
WHY NOT just post here...where at least I know where I am?! :) not

I really think trello is hard to use. Does everything got to start with @Anobium then enter then type then save? I could have learnt c+ for the same time it takes to work how trello works.

Because lot of people do not use Great Cow BASIC. The BETA is for any programming language.

So say I like rpi with pretty gui and mouse and it's like an old pc but works then in simple instructions, what do I install in the terminal and how?
I haven't a clue what to do with windows and what file to store where and then get on rpi.
Sorry mate but not a clue what to do.
YOU said you don't use linux...so empathise with me as we have something in common.
I use linux when I HAVE to...like rpi. I am a linux beginner.

I like the sudo apt_get install stuff

So, if you like using sudo...you will like PKCMD-PI. See the video https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ase-PX_n_4cvg6ALDEcbPvj4Im2B7A?e=GqGN0H it on the Trello card https://trello.com/c/mAZVfscq The new software is a command line utility.

      :-)
