    Hello All,

Previously, Great Cow BASIC has been compiled using MS QuickBASIC. However, this compiler is over 15 years old and some limits have started to show themselves. Hence I have made the decision to use the FreeBASIC compiler to compile GCBASIC.

There are several advantages to this. Mainly, GCBASIC is now better able to handle larger, more complex programs. It should also be possible for a native Linux version - if anyone is able to help with this, please post here, or email me at w_cholmondeley@users.sourceforge.net

The new version of the compiler is at http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/newfiles/New GCBASIC.zip - it would be very good if some people could download this and give it a try. I expect that the new version will contain several bugs, so please keep a backup of the old version of gcbasic.exe and messages.dat.

Several lines in messages.dat have had additional spaces added. If you have altered your messages.dat, you'll need to add in some spaces to a few messages. It will be obvious where they are needed when you run the compiler.

Please post here if you find any bugs. GCBASIC 0.9.3.0 is still a few weeks away as there are several more things to implement and more testing to carry out.

Oops! The correct download link is: "http://gcbasic.sourceforge.net/newfiles/New GCBASIC.zip" (without the quotes)
