A recent post by @williamroth about picaxe to gcb. It's an old thread but gcb is so low cost and what it does needs promotion.
It's not about converting picaxe code to gcb code, it's converting picaxe users to gcb users.
Like some people use parallax or basic stamp.
There's old but still commercial basic compilers for pics with a limited chip set.
There's the arduino ide for avr using c.

GCB seems to do a lot and the learning curve is easier now than when I started 5 years ago.
Like the programmer preferences are gui not text.
Being a onetime picaxe user and expert status...:) I can only recommend switching to gcb .
It can be simple as zxbasic or complicated like bbc basic.
You get loads of libraries for devices. Picaxe , it's ask hippy and the forum.
As I said an arduino is going to be easier than a pic and using pickit2/3 for someone new to gcb.
Picaxe users are often old people like me but can't learn something new. Their loss.

I've posted lots of youtube gcb videos but said it's to show problems on the forum as video posting doesn't work... but it get gcb publicity.
