Ok, well this tends to work here in Hawaii, but it seems that on the BlackBerry Peral you have to set "Settings -> Advanced -> TCP's" APN to wap.voicestream.com with a blank username and password. (Side note, this allows most TCP/IP apps to work including opera, SSH, gcalsync, etc.)
Just a potential fix for you guys... it worked for me.
