I was thinking that matrix math should be done in completely
separate dialog box. Something like this ascii art:

/-----------------------------------------------------------\ | Matrix Math _ O X|
-------------------------------------------------------------
| |
| Matrix One Matrix Two Resulting Matrix |
| Rows 2* Rows 2* |
| Columns 2* Columns 2* |
| /---------\ /---------\ /---------------\ |
| | X | X | Operator| Y | Y | | Z | Z | |
| |----|----| +* |----|----| =3D |-------|-------| |
| | X | X | | Y | Y | | Z | Z | |
| \---------/ \---------/ \---------------/ |
| |
| det=3D#### det=3D#### det=3D#### |
| |
| OK HELP |
\-----------------------------------------------------------/

Both sets of rows and columns should have an up/down clicker, and
all X's and Y's should be user editable. The operator should be a
pull down selection of +-*/. The determinants at the bottom should
not be user editable. All values should update onupdate. When the
rows or columns values change the grid for user entry should change
size. If the rows or columns get larger than 3, I think the matrix
entry area should get some scroll bars.

I'm going to submit this email as a feature request on the
Sourceforge account (http://www.sf.net/projects/gcalc/). Anything
I'm missing? For a similar programmatic example, see GraphCalc's
Table dialog for 2d graphs. That uses similar evaluation features.

Thanks again for anything you can help with.
