There probably should be a "tolerance" parameter for
averaging spectra. As it stands (and I believe that
this is a UniPOPS holdover), one can average spectra
that are taken at different positions, frequencies,
etc. To keep people from making simple mistakes, like
averaging spectra taken at different positions, ave
should probably have some "tolerance" parameters. For
example, a default position tolerance of 0.1 arcsec
would prevent averaging spectra at different positions.
If one wanted to make an average of map spectra taken
at positions +-20 arcsec, then the position tolerance
could be set to 20 arcsec.

We think that the most appropriate way to deal with this is
to write a higher-level procedure that would use the
existing accum, and gshift to do alignment and exclude scans
outside of various tolerances. We can add that to our wish
list, but it will be awhile before the development team gets
to it. If you'd like to work on that yourself and submit it
for inclusion in the package - that would be great.
