GATE version 5.0 beta 1 released

The first beta of version 5.0 of GATE (a General Architecture for Text Engineering) has been released. This release includes major additions to the JAPE pattern language, support for configuration of resources using Java 5 annotations, as well as a host of UI improvements, bug fixes, and better support for manual annotation tasks.

GATE version 4.0 beta 1 released

A first beta of version 4.0 of GATE (a General Architecture for Text Engineering) has been released. GATE is a framework and development environment for human language processing, originally developed at the University of Sheffield.

Major new features in this release include:

* ANNIC - the "ANNotations In Context" concordancer and rule authoring system.
* Rewritten machine learning and ontology APIs.
* OCAT - the Ontology-based Corpus Annotation Tool for manual annotation of documents against an ontology.... read more

GATE version 3.1 released

GATE version 3.1 was released on 7th April 2006. Major new features since version 3.0 include:

* Support for IBM's UIMA language processing framework
* A rewritten ontology API based on Jena 2
* New JAPE compiler from OntoText providing up to 5x speedup
(compared to the standard JAPE implementation)

GATE version 3.1 beta 1 released

A first beta of version 3.1 of GATE (a General Architecture for Text Engineering) has been released. GATE is a framework and development environment for human language processing, originally developed at the University of Sheffield. Development moved to SourceForge earlier this year.

Major new features in this release include:

* Support for components written for IBM's UIMA framework.
* A rewritten Ontology API (this is still under development)
* An optimized compiler for JAPE grammars, from Ontotext Lab.... read more
