To provide Windows and Mac users genuine access to GASiC, we set up a virtual Linux machine with GASiC preinstalled. This virtual machine can, for example, be run with the VirtualBox Software https://www.virtualbox.org/.
The VM should start to a Gnome desktop. You will find some icons on the desktop that will help you to use GASiC.
The GASiC source code is located in the home folder. Navigate to /home/user/GASiC to find a copy of GASiC. This should be the same as you can find on the sourceforge page. If you are on the terminal, type svn update to obtain the latest version of GASiC.
The home folder also contains an interactive tutorial introduction, which can be accessed from the corresponding desktop icon. Before you can start with the introduction, you will need to unpack the example data by clicking the corresponding desktop icon. The interactive tutorial will show you how to use GASiC to analyze a small example dataset.
If you want to import your own data, you somehow need to get access to your data. There are several ways to accomplish that:
useruseruserYou will need the sudo-password to install additional software. To keep internet traffic low, we only installed the basic components.
The VM shows a black login screen after booting.
Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F8] to switch to the desktop.
Pressing [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F8] does not help.
Return to the login screen by pressing [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F1]. Login with username user and password user. Type startx to start the Desktop environment.
