Can you just use two different tasks?

Yes. And call them "[tasks name] phase 1", "[tasks name]
phase 2", "[tasks name] phase 3" etc.
Of course you can do like this but task management is more complicated in this case because you have several tasks instead of one.
Since tasks often are splitted in reality the whole project file rapidly is able to have a lot of lines and to be difficult to keep up with.
I presume this feature is hard to implement but I think it is the last big gap between GanttProject and MSProject and the last thing which make me unsatisfied by using it.
I hope task splitting will be implemented in the new M3 (Loire) release.

Do we have any update on this option?! So great program by it's simplicity and it is missing one of most basic operations in a project management.
Ex. I am trying to manage a project that runs in paralel with hich school classes schedule, and I can't visualise in one single line what are the breaks that students have during all year. At the end, i need to have 7 or 8 lines for what could be easilly displayed in one single line!
Considering now that I also need to add college calendar and university calendar in 3 lines, 1 per school level, then I am screwed! :(
You seem to have CSS turned off.
