You should be able to make it through the quick tutorial and save that project without a problem.  So I assume you're working on a new project of your own.  I suspect the error has something to do with an object in your game that has not been completely defined.  But if you could tell me how to reproduce that problem I'd very much like to fix it for version 1.4.0 because you should be able to save at any point without getting such errors.  Can you tell me what steps to take from a blank project to produce that error; I assume you're using GameDev version 1.3.2.

Yes ok... alright let me think.. I have not had much expirerence I just got this and I hope to get a game to this site sometime soon.. anyway!(Sorry I dont get on much so my replies may be a while)

I created my tilesets. 2 of them. I went through tile categories and assigned my tiles to each one of my tile categories I made. I have no uphill downhill etc. assigned to my Solidity Definitoin. Just the solids.(Whether that matters or not I will just try to be detailed as possible.) I have NO tile matching defined. I just go in and create my map by hand. I create a new map left-0 top-32 uumm.. i set up everything like in the tutorial. named my layer main etc. So far everything saves ok. It almost seems like the error doesnt occure until i finish creating my sprites. I think then when I see save, I get "Map Read Error: Object variable or with block variable not set" So I just exit out and re-open it. Now my map is still there but my sprites our gone. My paths are still there also. I just ended up creating a new game with the same 2 tilesets. Although when I open the file it says I think Sprite Path not found. So I hope I helped and I hope I can get a game done soon.
Thanx for taking the time to read my comment and I appreciate.

      Thanks again,
      Cole

It sounds like you're missing something in the process of creating a sprite, so could you tell me exactly the steps you are using to create a particular sprite that cannot be saved?  Are you selecting a path, specifying state type, setting the tileset, dragging the frames in for every available state, specifying the solidity, specifying the input, giving the template a name, giving the sprite a name and clicking create?
Perhaps you should follow through the quick tutorial exactly for the process of creating a sprite.  If there's any step where you're confused let me know.  Did you ever do *just* the quick tutorial and get it to work?  I would still like to fix this problem, though, so if you can tell what the difference is in creating sprites that causes this error to occur, let me know.  I need exact steps to try to reproduce the problem.

I would have to go through the program and see. I am at school right now so I cant do it just yet but I'll right back soon. I do know for sure that my other sprites(not the player) do not have a solidity defined because I want them to travel "through" the tiles. I created a new game with the tiles and everything and so far its working. Sometime when I load a sprite there is no selection in the tileset box. Maybe it does it sometimes by default. I will go through all my sprites and make sure that the tileset box is defined. Cause the message Object variable or with block variable not set comes up when I try to access the other tabs in the map layer of the dialog. I can also send the project. I deleted it though, so if it comes up again and you let me know if you would like the project.
      Thanks
      Cole

Ealier I think you said that you got the error when you saved the project, so I assumed you couldn't send me a project that exhibited the error.  But if you *can* save a project that exhibits the error, by all means send it.  That's the easiest way for me to work on a problem.  Also, your problem may have something to do with a bug I discovered last month in version 1.3.2 that has been fixed for version 1.4 (which has not been released yet):

Do you have any missing sprite states or are they all still filled in?

my tiles for my sprites are set...
it usually happenes when I have created a path...
      or it seems...

I do think that may have lost sprite states before. It has done this with more than one project. 5 or 6 times. I think I remember it deleting some of my sprite states. Sometimes it does not though...

Best of luck gettint his fixed...
      Cole,

      P.S I hope I help!

You should still send me your project if you can save it in a state that will produce the error you describe.  If it doesn't have anything to do with the sprite state error, I should look at this as a separate problem and fix it.
