I tried to setup a PDF reference database with G2. I found out that the automatic rendering of the thumbnails doesn’t work with CMYK PDFs if there is a pixel graphic inside the PDF.
The rendering on the Server using convert works fine on the other Hand.
You can find more info’s and Test PDFs in this forum thread.

@Evaluation:
The primary question is whether G2's imagemagick module fails to detect CMYK PDFs when the same imagemagick can detect CMYK JPGs/TIFFs and if so why.
Thanks for filing the bug and for providing a test case. We will look into the issue as soon as possible.

Ok, reclassifying as feature request. G2 does not support CMYK PDFs for now. Please convert your documents to sRGB before uploading them to G2.
To add CMYK support for PDF documents in G2, changes are required similar to http://fisheye3.cenqua.com/changelog/gallery?cs=10563 where color space support has been added for GalleryPhotoItem. The good news is that a lot of low level pluming is already there which can be reused for PDFs. But it's still a bit more than a one liner to add CMYK support for non-image items.
