Hi all, I've been trying all day to get a simple little one-voice synth going in galan to no avail (I'm not exactly a synth n00b either....). This is the best I can come up with: http://chat.carleton.ca/~drobilla/galan.jpg but the problem is the envelope triggers on note on and note off. I've tried just about everything and I'm out of ideas. What's with the lack of triggers? I would expect an envelope to have a trigger in, 0 being "off" and anything else being "on" (so you could just hook up velocity to it). It seems like triggers in galan trigger when the input signal changes at all? Anyway, if anyone could enlighten me how to get a simple synth going in galan, it'd be much appreciated. I see a lot of potential in galan (and I'm frankly sick of dealing with the horridness that is AMS) I'd be happy to make some examples for the web page once I figure things out (they're certainly needed), or even full-blown synth patches for download Thanks, -Dave |

hi guys... i just wanted to mention, that i had galan running under windows yesterday. this was with gtk-2.0.0 and without sound output. so its not really usable. but its getting towards ./configure; make; there. i will update the gtk+ on windows when i have the time. then we will see if gtk+ became better and galan is usable on the other platform. -- torben Hohn http://galan.sourceforge.net -- The graphical Audio language |

i compiled galan 0.3.0 beta5, after i had several crashes with beta4. beta5 seems to be more stable, but it still crashes or freezes often. i couldn't figure out when and why, but i only used galan beta5 for half an hour. |

How should such a thing with 4 Outputs behave ? shall it be possible to open several OSC sockets ? > > i guess there are more important improvements for galan than OSC you > want to work on :-). indeed :) but if i know how the thing should behave its rather easy to implement. hello torben, nearly a year ago I asked about OSC for galan and then never replied to your mails. are you going to add OSC controls to galan in the near future? i'm think of a OSC control, which listens to a OSC address and has one or more output connectors. i guess there are more important improvements for galan than OSC you want to work on :-). will you be at the LAD conference at ZKM? |

galan-0.3.0_beta5 is released. For those who know it already: One of the new features include cloning. you can now select a bunch of components and clone them. (This will be changed to a full blown copy/paste mechanism soon) And the polyphony option will be added soon. galan is a modular synthesizer similar to SSM and AMS. The difference is that you build the schematics in one window and have the controls in another window. So your synth UI is not cluttered with the schematics. galan also supports subpatches. You can add patches from the library to your current patch with 2 mouseclicks. the LADSPA adsr can be used for real note-on note-off behaviour. And with the voice allocator it is already possible to build polyphonic synths. I will refine that process somwhat. But it already works. When you have setup your schematic and placed the controlling knobs and sliders on your control panel, you can draw a custom background for the ControlPanel and import the painted picture into galan. The knobs now support alpha transparency, so they should integrate onto every background. galan supports jack and alsa sequencer. You can open any number of ports you would like. The internal sequencers can sync to jack-transport. galan also supports LADSPA. You will have all LADSPA effects handy you normally use. And you will be able to setup a nice Interface for your Effects. You would then save them to your sheet library, making them 2 clicks away. So wiring a jack-inport and another jack-outport to your favorite plugin, is done in a few seconds. It even supports the first jack-midi patch (although only as a synth and as the patch changed recently, there will be no sequencer around :) perhaps the next patch. get it at http://galan.sf.net and look at http://galan.sf.net/anti-aliased-knobs.png cause this is how it looks like. -- torben Hohn http://galan.sourceforge.net -- The graphical Audio language |

Just a few minor wishlist items: It'd be nice if you could specify a sheet or project on the command line to load. It'd be nice if GALAN_PLUGIN_PATH and LADSPA_PATH and (potentially) GALAN_SHEET_PATH could be colon separated lists of paths rather than just one. It'd be nice if when you load a new sheet, it would remove the default (empty) sheet ... or maybe it didn't have the default (empty) sheet at all when you start. It'd be nice if there were an X on the tab for sheets so that they could be easily removed (like galeon's tabs). It'd be nice if the context menu items were also available from the top menu, maybe an Add menu or something that would contain exactly whan the context menu contains. Thats about all. I might even be able to add some of these myself, once I can get CVS compiling. -- -><- Nick Rusnov -><- http://nick.industrialmeats.com -><- ni...@fa.../nic...@de... |

i switched development to the galan 0.3.0 branch again. - the sheet library was slightly updated. (added hierarchy, please critizise) and more sheets... - the sampler can now emit its contents as an event. and receive an array containing the new sample ( this is the first step towards fft ) hang on for more :) -- torben Hohn http://galan.sourceforge.net -- The graphical Audio language |
