Motivation

Galactus has been developed due to our realisation that HI is often shows signs of self-absorption. The traditional astronomical tools assume that the HI is optically thin. While this is sufficient to get the fit right to the first order, especially in edge-on galaxies this will lead to significant problems.

We therefore set out to develop a tool which can deal with self-absorption of the HI.
