Welcome to Galactus homepage. Galactus is an astronomical software tool for the modeling and fitting of galaxies from neutral hydrogen (HI) cubes. It continues the long tradition of GALMOD, TiRiFiC and others.
The major difference between those and Galactus is that the forementioned use pointsource-like clouds to generate a cube. They thus use an optically thin model. Galactus on the contrary uses a uniform medium and can perform the full-radiative transfer for the HI. This allows it to model the (self-)absorption of the galaxy, although it can also fit optically thin models. Note that both these methods are only approximations to the detailed structures inside galaxies.
For a motivation on why I have developed Galactus, see the [Motivation] page.
Galactus is currently in a pre-alpha release state. Major changes are bound to be implemented, so be careful with using the system for anything important. Comments are very welcome.
