I have "Show Buddy List entry on taskbar" unchecked, but it doesn't disappear. I'm using Windows Vista RTM 6000 Home Premium.

I have no access to a vista system to test this, but I suspect it's a GTK+ bug. If anyone else using vista seems this consistently, please let me know. If it affects everyone across the board, I'll see if we can produce a test case to file a bug upstream if need be.

Whoever reported this.. Can you report what GTK+ version you have installed? Perhaps if it's an older one (less than 2.10) you could you try to upgrade it and see if it works.

I'm using XP and the entry on the taskbar reappears on startup, though it does go away temporarily if I check and uncheck the option in the extended preferences plugin options.

Are the reporters using version 0.7 of the plugin? I am not able to reproduce this issue on Windows XP SP2 using version 0.7 and Pidgin 2.0.1 with GTK 2.10.11 rev b.

Was there ever a fix for this?

Not sure if it will help anyone, but the feature wont work while the buddy list is docked. I undocked, checked, unchecked, then docked and it worked.

I am also seeing this problem after I upgraded to Pidgin 2.4.1 and ExtPrefs 0.7 It worked before I updated Pidgin. The XML shows the correct value for this option, and other options work in this plugin, but I cant get the taskbar button to go away.

Did you upgrade from 2.3.x to 2.4.1? There was a GTK+ upgrade after 2.4.0 so I have a feeling that if you are now only having this problem, it could be a GTK+ problem.

Can you try downgrading your GTK+ package from 2.12.8 Rev A to 2.12.1 Rev B found on the pidgin SF site:

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=235&package_id=119698

and see if it works and report back? If this fixes the issue I'll file a bug report to GTK.

I did upgrade from 2.3.x to 2.4.1. There was a GTK+ update when I installed Pidgin. I reverted from 2.12.8 A to 2.12.1 B and that fixed the problem. Thanks for the tip. Is there any functionality, to your knowledge, that will be lost by using the older GTK+? I hope this helps.

I reverted also from 2.12.8 A to 2.12.1 B and that fixed the problem. Thank you very much. So far no problems with Pidgin 2.4.1 and other plugins.

The GTK downgrade also worked for me, thanks!!!

I also lost "taskbar functionality" after the last pidgin upgrade.

I'm having the same problem, with Windows XP Pro, SP2. The only other Third Party Plugin I've added is Guifications2. This is with a very recent install of Pidgin 2.4.2, with the then latest version of GTK+ installed by the installer.

As already indicated, this does not work for anyone, unless you DOWNGRADE GTK+ to 2.12.1 rev b. This is a GTK+ bug in the Pidgin distribution and is not something we can work around. We will have to wait for it to be fixed. Additional reports from the same GTK+ version will not help.
