ok i have an idea, not sure how complex this maybe but

i have 4 cdkey pairs so i can use d2 on multiple
systems, is there a way to connect using the difrent
cdkeys for specific accounts, i mean we could do the
following

make a sellection for cdkey.mpq or hard code cdkeys in
via a popup box im not sure the best way to do this but
im hacking away at the code right now and testing my
skills at it. im not all that good though

anyone else got any ideas off of this?

Migrating to the binary protocol will make use of CD keys necessary anyway, so there will be a possibility to assign one to an account as well.

I would not like to see this feature implemented. Already we have too many spam bots and AD bots on D2 and I don't really think allowing multiple connections in this manner would be a useful feature. If you wish to use the clients as moderation bots for private channels there are plenty of perfectly good administrative bots out there which will work fine with D2DV and D2XP.

As to what natureshadow has said that's not quite accurate. There are a couple clients which operate without CD-Keys with the exception of telnet/chat which is currently only in use by Blizzard employees. Battle.net supports Diablo, Diablo Shareware, and StarCraft Shareware none of which use CD-Keys to login. The latter 2 can be found on Blizzard's FTP. These clients are a bit limited but no more than telnet/chat was in the later years. I would think if the project is going towards connecting to Battle.net's private binary network(which I may add is not allowed although it is also near unenforceable and they tend to turn a blind eye) it should try to use one of these legacy clients.

You may also find bnet docs helpful: http://ersan.us/src/bnetdocs/content.html
Please note that the login procedure for starcraft has changed and Blizzard now has the warden active in the chat channels if you're trying to use STAR or SEXP, other sc clients will work.

With the changes that will be made in Battle.net for the release of starcraft II it may be prudent to wait and see what we get with Battle.net 2.0 before updating gaim bnet.

Whether there is any reason for implementing a feature like this can be decided once there is software to talk about. Currently, we don't have anything that works, so we should concentrate on the basic thingsw first.
