Recent Windows Updates cause havoc to GAG!

Over the last week (May 10-17, 2013) I lost GAG! I feared it may have been overwritten by malware.
I also noticed I had lost three gadgets from my desktop.
Since I could still boot into my OSs via the BIOS, I tried to solve the gadget problem first. I noticed Microsoft had recently issued a couple of faulty Updates (and had to repatch them), so I began by uninstalling the four most recent updates. After a restart, not only had my Gadgets reappeared, but GAG was back!!
Just thought this may save someone some time.  Just dumb luck on my part.
Chris (I multiboot Win XP, Win7, Win7 64-bit, and another Win XP for gaming).

Yes. First, this applies to my office OS, Windows 7 Pro. SP1:

KB2798162: to 'resolve issues' in Windows
    KB2804579: for .NET Framework 3.5.1
KB2820197: for Win. server 2012 (activeX killbits)
    KB2829361: for Win. 8
    KB2830290: for Win. Server

Hope it's of some help. All updates were automatically downloaded and applied. I have since switched off the 'automatic' part!
