A little message to give a sign that there is interest in a GPLed schematic editor, and give a few opinions. I know talk is cheap, but who know help might come later since a noticed that you clearly documented and rated the goals, the architecture, the roadmap.
First of all: please don t tie gael to PCBs, some might want to use it in integrated circuit development. For instance (just guessing, I did not try gael yet) the PartName is not relevant in that case.
Also, don t forget a nice link with simulation results: a schematic that cannot be backannotated with voltages and currents visible at the same time is not worth jazz (and that is still what you-know-who manages to sell for hard cash ! ). If you feel bald, then you ll want to provide interactive V/I probes as well, and link to the waveform viewer.
That brings me to the last topic: the waveform viewer. Have you found open source candidates ? For I don t know of any. gwave is so far not a serious contender. The waveform viewer has requirements in numerics, graphics, scriptability (batch), I/O ( 2GB transients), and GUI that are quite tough to meet. Do you have any ideas there ?

Again, please keep up the good work ! I was rather sad to see yaEDA or oregano go down the drain, and this little mail is all I could contribute for now.

Thanks, I'm really happy you're enjoying Gael.

Just a word on the various documentation things. I'm trying to keep them somewhat up to date but they may not all be. I should update and take care of them more often.

Another notice, you'll be able to use only some aspects of gael.
It's modular enough to get many different engines for schematic/simulation/PCB.
Let's just say the most advanced version would get a VLSI layout as well as a PCB layout. Same goes for simulation.
This also means that you can go forth and back between schematic/simulation/PCB and so on. The all thing is integrated and you'll be able to select wires in the simulation and see them selected in schematic and PCB :)
