We recently upgraded our glibc to fix security issues reported by this CVE https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2011-1071 and because of this glibc change fusermount fails to add entries to /etc/mtab. We worked around this isse by compiling fuse with -disable-mtab options. I wanted to know the side effects to disabling mtab.
fusermount: failed to add entry to /etc/mtab: Invalid argument^M
fuse failed. Common problems:^M
- fuse kernel module not installed (modprobe fuse)^M
- invalid options -- see usage message^M
