I have written a new plugin for the Exiv2 library which extracts the date/time and resolution information from the EXIF on JPEGs (and possibly other EXIF compatible formats, although I have not tried it).
This means this info appears correctly on the PS3 photo summary, and allows slideshows to function as expected using the date info.
This is much, much faster than the equivalent code using ImageMagick/MagickWand. For comparison, it took 2.5 hours to catalogue my 6000 photos with ImageMagick, but takes 3 minutes with Exiv2.
WARNING: You may need to throw your old fuppes.db away if you install this patch. Continue at your own risk.
This patch changes the default metadata extraction order to exiv2 -> magickwand -> simage.
Works on my installation, although YMMV:
Linux version 2.6.18-6-k7 (Debian 2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch1) (firstname.lastname@example.org) (gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)) #1 SMP Sun Feb 10 22:16:15 UTC 2008
Exiv2 is free software, available in source or binary format (http://www.exiv2.org) or via the debian package manager.
Hope you find it useful.
