#12 Message Splitting

Is there any way a Message Splitting Feature could be implimented? The way things work now, Carrier and Pidgin both just cut the message short if it is too long. Message splitting or at the least, refusing to let the user type any extra characters (as most of the real clients usually do.) would be a great new feature that I'm sure many people would find usefull.
