Yay! I'm glad you're doing this!

Now I know where to go for Pidgin updates - and your files work as a portable app (which I use at work), so this is going to work out nicely for me.

I had been under the impression that only one of the Pidgin developers was a stubborn mule, but it would appear from reading the ticket about manual text input resizing (which is how I found out about this) that all the developers have this attitude.

It's too bad, I suppose. Like the guy who started this fork, Gaim and Firefox were my first real OSS applications. Every single release of Pidgin since 2.1 has inexplicably removed features that I really, really liked.

On that note, one feature that was pulled from 2.2 that I greatly miss was in the "Buddies" menu of the buddy list - you used to be able to show and hide empty groups, offline buddies, etc. from that menu without having to dip into a submenu. This is one of those things that was removed for no real purpose, and it'd be great if it could be brought back.

Also, in 2.3 they killed the contrast background color for buddy group titles. The black underline just isn't enough of a visual indicator between groups.

If I was a software developer at all, I'd make plugins to re-enable this stuff...but it never should have been taken out in the first place.

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next from this project!

Yeah, its almost like every new Pidgin release gets worse and worse, I hear ya. I will get working on adding the group title contrast for the next version. The submenu in Buddies I can see being a bit controversial because some people might want a more concise menu, but I will NOT ignore that. I think letting people customize where items are placed in the menu is a good idea... if we can get it working.

Just to give you an update, optional group title background contrast is now in the SVN version of Funpidgin. Alright, on to another requested feature!

I especially like the 'place windows where the window manager would place them' feature. Now I don't have to keep moving around my new chat windows because they are on top of each other. Thanks!

Yes, thank you for doing this.  I can't tell you how many times something I used was changed or simply removed and the response in the forums was "You don't need that!".  I often read the forums when others asked that a change be reversed or at least give the user control over it and all I could say about the devs response was, "What an a$$hole!".  I'll be switching to funpidgin asap.  That is unless Sean says that "I don't need to", LOL.

Bless all of you for doing this. It's amazing how ignorant the Pidgin devs have become (ahem: Sean?) with such an elitist attitude about them. So many requests have gone up to them, only to be smacked down and denied for no other reason than "Get away from me, scum". I've resorted to patching in whatever features I most missed whenever they released a new version to compile a custom version... but alas! No more!

Good luck in all of this!

I've registered here just to thank you for making this fork. I wish you best of luck and thank you for making Funpidgin.
