I think it'd be an idea to disassociate the name entirely from the Pidgin project. The problem is in finding a name that properly conveys the purpose of the application, in addition to sounding cool. You want something like "Songbird", not something like "the GIMP".

Yeah it needs to be something distinctive, funpidgin is cute for 5 minutes to be a REBEL but won't hold up if this gets serious, which it really needs to. I throw in a vote for something generic--Multiprotocol Internet Messenger/MIM or something like that.

I think the name mIMe would be pretty good, and for a few reasons....
1. It gets the IM across.
2. It makes sense, because you are texting and using smilies instead of talking.
3. It has a Backronym of Multiple Instant Messenger Enviroment
4. The logo could be a cartoony mime typing on a keyboard that isn't there.
I think it really fulfills all the requirements of a good name.
