you shouldn't get that high CPU utilization. Would you please compile the kernel with usb debug, and ftdi_sio loaded with debug=1. I also use the same chip on linux 2.6.21 and tried on the lastest Ubuntu and had no problem. Although, i didn't run it at 230400, and flow control enabled. If possible, would you please try to run it at lower baudrate and/or without software flow control? . thank you.
