Commit [r41] Maximize Restore History

Update of the configuration script - remove support for "ancient" platforms and compilers", bring in Intel Fortran.

Correct example "calc" for a weird problem with single-precision reals (manifest with gfortran 7.3.0, 64-bits) - the real comes always back as zero, did not happen with Intel Fortran. Also correct the makefile for the example.

Minor details in the library itself
