So the preferences are stored in java's preference system. These are stored
in several possible places depending on whether you're using 32bit on
64bit, and/or are using run as administrator:

    1) In registry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\sce\util
    2) In registry at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Prefs\sce\util
    3) In the registry at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\sce\util
    4) In the registry at:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Prefs\sce\util

    Hope this helps,

    Andy

Thanks Andy for your reply, I use windows 7 64bit, so it means when I reinstall windows I have to set all the groups again, right?

Now the groups are actually stored in the scenery.cfg file. So so long as
you keep a copy of that you should be fine.

Now the scenery config file can be found in a number of different places
depending on which version of fs you have. But if you look at preferences
you should be able to work out where the file is being kept.

well, I know that the scenery.cfg file can be found at
          c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX-SE\ c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\

but at the moment I use it with P3D, my question is , can I use the scenery.cfg file  from P3D copy to FSX-SE if not
because when the scenery editor first install asking where the path is for the flight sim.

my question is will it be possible that scenery editor can make 2 choice of 2 diffrence flight sim, I hope you understand what I mean,or will be possible only to copy the scenery.cfg file as I mentin above. thanks.

I'm not sure what you're asking:

If you want to use the editor for two different sims, just change the
preference and reload the default scenery.

If you want to copy your scenery.cfg from one sim to the other, set the
preference to the first sim - load the default scenery file - then change
the preference and save the default scenery file.
