If we are revising the way tables are handled behind the scenes, a
nice thing to add would be a fourth column in which the user can enter
a comment. The reason for this is that while scripts (for example) can
be commented internally, many other values (such as scalars)
cannot be. Looking at the "virgin" database for the first time in many
years, I'm realizing how many values I like to set differently, and when
I do, I'd like to leave a comment saying when I changed it and why.
Also, not every value has the same status; some things in user.prefs
really are user preferences, but others are in constant use by the
system and should not be touched. Comments would make it
possible to clarify what is touchable and what it does. Understanding
the database would be far easier for both beginners and experts if
every table entry could have a comment.
