support for non-Windows platforms

I used to help out with the original version of frhed:

I would really love it if frhed were ported to more platforms. I'd love to be able to run it again, but I've long since moved to Linux and I prefer not to run it using Wine since I'm on 64-bit Linux and running 32-bit Windows apps is a bit of a pain. I think this would pay off really well, since you would get more people helping out if they could run it more easily. If you decide to do this I will definitely package it for Debian and Ubuntu.
I'd love to see this happen too, for two reasons. One, I could use it on ubuntu, and two, that it will force frhed to not use the windows registry, thereby making it portable again.
I have some ideas for this (of course). But not much time currently. I want to convert Frhed to use Qt framework later on.
